Police says 'no' to both Trinamool factions for Shaheed Diwas event in front of Victoria House
Former Deputy Mayor of Kolkata and Trinamool Congress leader Atin Ghosh has approached the Calcutta High Court seeking anticipatory bail. The move comes amid a police investigation into an alleged land corruption and property grabbing case. Apprehending arrest, Ghosh moved the court of Justice Shuvra Ghosh on Tuesday, and the court has formally accepted the application for a hearing.
The case stems from a written complaint filed by a hotel owner, who alleged that his house and land were forcibly taken from him for a minor sum of money, resulting in a financial deception of about Rs 50 lakh. The businessman initially filed the complaint at Pragati Maidan police station, which was later transferred to Bidhannagar North police station for a detailed investigation. Following the complaint, the Bidhannagar police summoned Atin Ghosh and his daughter, Priyadarshini Ghosh, for questioning.
Ghosh's legal counsel requested an urgent hearing, claiming that the political leader and his family members have been falsely implicated in the land dispute. Meanwhile, the former deputy mayor has expressed full willingness to cooperate with the ongoing police probe, maintaining that his daughter purchased the property legally and asserting that his 50-year political career remains free of any corruption allegations.
